lol yeah,
on the topic of torrents,
I read on anime-axess that animesuki got sent a letter to stop linking to torrents becasue of copyright laws, so we might see the end of them..
Anime- Axess said this:
The beginning of the end? Posted by Seany on 10 Dec 2004
Although fansubs are technically illegal, the original copyright holders of anime in Japan haven't done much to stop distribution of fansubs of unlicensed anime. There have been instances here and there where a company has requested that fansubbing of certain anime be halted, but we are not aware of a case where a company in Japan has requested that distribution of fansubs of all their unlicensed anime be stopped; this is what happened very recently.
Japanese anime studio Media Factory Inc. recently sent a Cease and Desist letter to AnimeSuki requesting they (in the words of AS) "stop uploading 'works' (anime series) of MFI to our website and/or stop 'inducing' our visitors to websites where their 'works' can be downloaded."
Regardless of whether or not MFI could take any action against AnimeSuki in court, to avoid any legal trouble, AS has removed all links to anime produced by Media Factory from their website.
As it turns out, AnimeSuki wasn't the only one to get the letter. It appears Wannabe Fansubs and Lunar Anime also got the letters. The latter along with other sites have decided to take the same action as AnimeSuki and remove all MFI produced anime. However, Wannabe Fansubs and Anime-Keep on the other hand, have publicly announced they will continue providing torrent links for MFI's anime.
Whether or not any website other than those mentioned actually got the letter is not known to us.
AnimeSuki was quoted saying, "The beginning of the end? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on if any other Japanese anime studio decides to follow MFI's example. AnimeSuki will continue to list fansubs of anime series for which MFI does not hold the copyright, unless told to do otherwise. So unless AnimeSuki is made obsolete by virtually every anime studio taking the same action as MFI, we won't close down!"
