Tekken 5 Review
A decade old and still urging to go on, Tekken presents it's fifth sequel, Tekken 5. Tekken was one of the first beat em ups to impose 3D graphics in the arcades. This being the case, it wasn't enough just to play it in the arcades, it found itself being ported over to Sony's behemoth of a console- the playstation and later on,the Playstation 2. The home versions excel rather well and better than the arcade versions. Tekken 5 is no different and has continued legacy of it's predecessors, it includes several different modes not found in the arcade version, and also offers extravagent 3D graphics and eye catching visuals and FMV's.
Tekken 5 pretends that Tekken 4 was just a bad dream. Tekken 4 was 'a little too' altered. The position-change moves weren't taken well by many fans. Tekken 4 was beleived to be over realistic in the physics department, and failed to maintain the prosperity of the Tekken combat and Tekken 'feel'like its prevsious predessecors.
Tekken 5 has gone back to the drawing board and has decided to make Tekken 5 more like its first three games. It certainly feels and plays more like the Tekkens we used to know before Tekken 4.
Tekken 5 offers some of the best 3D fighting combat out at the moment. It is able to provide each player with a good feel to what Tekken is all about. Beginners are able to easily adapt by pulling off some quick and easy to learn moves allowing them to put up in a fight, where as intermediate and expert players are able to pull of even deeper moves and to execute more devastating moves and combos which will leave the gamer(s) in awe.
Tekken 5 doesn't feature the unstable ground floors that Tekken 4 had, this is more of a good delight than a bad move.
The main single player mode of Tekken 5 is the story mode. In this you are able to go through a character's story and why they are entering the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, as well as finding about their past and their future.
The game sets out the story mode really well and is very simplictic, after selecting your chracter, there will be beautiful art of the character in a situation and the announcer explaining what is going on. You are able to meet other character that are on your journey and find out why they dare challenge you. In the final stages, you are able to fight Devil Jin and Jinpachi who are both very well developed. However, some begginers may find the bosses of the game a little tedious and hard to beat, but Tekken 5 makes the gamer adapt to the settings and is able to give off weaknesses that the computer possess to give begginers a fighting chance of the victory they play for.
After completing the mode, you are given an FMV sequence of the character's ending. Tekken is known for its lustrious video endings and Tekken 5 is no different. The endings can be a mixture of serious to hilarious, from this, you can concur that the people making Tekken are very fun, have sense of humours and enjoy their job.
Remember the customisation system in Virtua Fighter 4? well Tekken 5 offers that as well, so you are now able to customize your player's costumes, items and outfits. You buy the items with the amount of gold you possess, and then customize your character to your liking. It also enables you to add a name to your character so that when you score top ranks, you are distinguished from the rest.
The Arcade mode is very interesting as it emulates the arcade mode of Virtua Fighter 4's. It places you against the Game's A.I and goes on in a never ending battle where you fight characters with different ranks, and even different names, to give you the feel of you playing against another Human being.
Having said that, Tekken 5's A.I doesn't exactly make you feel like your going against another human being, but it is more advanced than other beat em ups. The characters however do play in different styles which deserves to be praised. The game allows 5 modes of difficulty so the player is able to progress even further than ever before. The strong AI makes up most definatley for the lack of Online Play that Tekken 5 fails to bring on the playing field. It is disappointing that Namco failed to see this, especially when Virtua Fighter 5 is set to be made, one has to think if Sega will take Tekken 5's lack of online play into accord.
Tekken 5 offers a new type of Tekken Force mode called Tekken: The Devil Within. In here you play as Devil Jin going through levels and destroying robots and Jack 5's with his awesome moves. Tekken:DWI offers smooth playability and makes up for mistakes (If Any!!) found already in Tekken 5. You are able to go into Devil Mode after the Devil gauge is full, but if you do, it will increase your power but drain your life, so it can only be used in dire situations, like Boss Fights. The mode itself is a completley different game from Tekken 5 and feels as thought you are not even playing Tekken 5 but a totally different Game. A downfall to the Tekken:DWI mode is that it has very little replay value, but it's durability to entertain the consumer is quite high as it features many levels for you to explore.
Tekken History Mode allows you to play Tekken, Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 arcade versions to let you remenise about the good ol' days.
Tekken 5 offers many character featuring old favourites, the occasional players and the new comers.
Kazuya, King, Law, Nina, Paul and Yoshimitsu are the obvious players that have arrived at the tournament without a doubt, and the occasional players featuring Anna,Baek,Bruce,Bryan,Hwoarang, Lei, Lee, and Ling Xiaoyu.
Tekken 5 didn't neglect the animal players like Kuma along with Roger. Tekken 4's New comers are also in Tekken 5 as well as the new comers of Tekken 5-
Raven, the mysterious Ninjitsu warrior with mystical and deadly moves and the abilty to teleport.
Asuka who by the way is a Kazama (Like you didn't know!) meaning she is Jin's cousin. She offers moves that Jun would have used but has her own style of combat far from Jun's own.
And Feng Wei, the devastating Kenpo Master set to test his style against others.
Tekken 5 is already released in Japan and USA and Europe and will leave many in sheer awe with it's capabilites. And one has to wonder how the Tekken team are going to top Tekken 5 with Tekken 6 which is set to arrive on the PS3. Well, online play will definatley be a word of advice to them!!
SCORE:: 9/10%

I am new to Tekken, but I am not a stranger to the combat that Tekken has to offer. I played Tekken 2 in great detail. When I said I am new to Tekken, I meant that I am able execute far more things in Tekken 5 than in any other Tekken I have played. I have mastered some character's 10 Hit combos which was a deleight as I thought I could never do so in previous Tekkens. Tekken 5 is definatley for everyone. It will take you from being a begginer to a Newbie-Intermediate in less than a week. I cant garuntee that because players play games to their own accord so progress differently but I can definatley say it is extremley easy to adapt to and has Virtua Fighter 4 elements to it as well. This is good becasue Tekken 5 provides layers of play, beginner play is in more detail and can be mistaken for play that is beyond the begginer, which saves embarasment for some. It's AI is definatley getting a thumbs up. Inability to connect Online is a let down but it will be likley ignored by many due to Tekken 5's new and improved Tekken Force Mode: Tekken- Devil Within. Definatley deserves anything above a 9.
