Alright now....I've spent many years playing fighting games, I believe many of us here, too, spent many years playing fighting games of all genere. As a fan of games since I was 9, looking back to a few really good games has always been a pleasure...(oh yea FF7, everyone who played it once at least payed it twice!!!)
Now Darkstalkers / Vampire Hunter, Whatever you call it...to me, it was a CLASSIC...now, as fans of games and animations, you should have at least heard of Darkstalkers games, Darkstalkers animations, Darkstalkers comics, or the very least....came across ONE Darkstalkers character before....well of course unless you don't play ANY games coming from Capcom (which by then you wouldn't understand what I'm talking about now)
Darkstalkers had every element a 2D fighting should have during that time. Funky Characters (before GGX came about), good graphics (it came before Marvel Vs Capcom), and really...an entire lot of kickass move completely different from the StreetFighter series. To think of it again, having kickass move wasn't a big surprise...street fighter had humans and all, but Darkstalkers? Vampires, A Mummy, a Lupine, Zombies, Succubus, Yeti/Bigfoot....what an I say? The cast here alone can kick Ryu n Co.'s butt right off the stairs if they were to fight in the real world...'cept Akuma, that is, for he trained with demons...
And OBVIOUSLY, Darkstalkers Anniversarry collection is a COLLECTION (duh?) of the previous Darkstalkers games....a true Darkstalkers fan should get it, while a non-darkstalker fan might just want to get it for his/her knowledge of how Darkstalkers came about...
Enough sensitive talk...lets move on now....
Almost forgot, *THIS GAME IS GIVEN RATING IN CONJUNTION WITH THE TIME THE ORIGINAL DARKSTALKERS CAME OUT*
Which means....DKAC:
-Vampires
-Vampier Hunter 1 (Darkstalkers)
-Vampire Savior (Darkstalkers 2)
-Vampire Hunter 2
-Vampire Saviour 2 (Darkstalkers 3)
Graphics: 8.0
Alright....Capcom and SnK has always come up with graphics that improves a tiny-winy-itsy-bit each time their games came out. Darkstalkers came out around the time MvS series came about, and sure, outside, it doesn't look much, but inside? Oh....SnK could never compare to such things that time....
Really...I'd rather have a game that looks good on the inside, that have a game that looks good on the outside (e.g KoF Neowave) Anytime!!!
Movements are cool, the movesets were drawn really well for that time, and Lei Lei/ Hsien Koh's movement, ohhh they were beautiful....
Music: 8.0
Darkstalkers BG themes were once good, but there was one slight drawback then. After every Round, the music restarted themselves, failing the players to listen to any songs in a full...BUT, CAPCOM removed that pesky system, and here we have it, continuos music in every match.
Still....I've only ever appreciated the music in Vampire Hunter 1, never got fond of the remixes....they just sounded tooo techno....thus, only a mere 8. And you get tired of the laughing sound at the menu screen after a while.
Gameplay: unrated
Really, this can only apply to people who actually like Darkstalkers, or falls in love with it after playing this Collection. I am not one to judge, I enjoyed it, unlocking it's gallery took quite a while. But I enjoued it, because I enjoy looking at Lei-Lei, Demitri, Morrigon, Lililth and Anakaris kicking their opponents life out of them in the the hardest mode possible.
Oh yea....this game require practice, lot's of it, if you are to play in the highest difficulty possible. Tactics? Well you get to find some strategy while using a few characters, but which fighting game doesn't?
Characters: 9.5
Capcom came up with something that actually had no humans weilding enough Inner strength to exert them onto their enemies...here, we get a lupine who weilds a nanchaku, a female Zombie (My Favousrite) who has quite a variety of weapons in her sleeves...maybe Faust's idea came from her,,,they're both random...A Vampire, 2 Succubus (How does her clothes stay on!?), A mummy of a pharoah (He rocked in MvC2)....well...a bigfoot...and a a few more...20 in all...not much compared to KoF, but it's uniqueness has never lost to GGX IMO.
Balance: 6.5
You guys should know why....Demitri....Donovan....Morrigan.....BALANCE? Well it's up to how you use them in the end....I've yet seen pros at work....can't see them no....so I guess, we'll just leave it to Capcom....
Ending Comments:
REALLY, CAPCOM!!! MAKE A SEQUEL!!! MAKE ONE WITH BETTER GRAPHICS AND MUSIC!!!!
