Probably because Harry turned into a walking talking angst machine.

Stephen King has some good stuff (The Stand was probably my favorite) but most of his books tend to be pretty formulaic.
Anyone here read Catch-22 or it's sequal Closing Time by Joseph Heller?

Nope, I heard about it from my English Lit teacher, form the name of the book, the plot and situation reflect upon what happens in the book
Anyone like Lord of the Flies?
oh btw, my friend Adrain, who worships LOTR said that in the final movie, Goluum never died how he supposed to, something about him tripping up......
Well, if he DID trip up in the book, it IMHO sounds cliche, Tolkein should have devised a more better way for the demonic creature to perish at the hands of the scorching lava in the depths of mount doom.

I enjoyed LOTF. I remember I had an English assignment in HS that I had to rewrite the ending.

yeah I found it cool, but the way the author- Golding I beleive his name was... The way in which he wanted evil to ooze out of man and portray mankinds utter brute nature was a little unorthodox for me.
**TOTALL SPOILER FROM HERE ON LOOK AWAY IF YOUR PLANNING TO READ THIS BOOK OR IN ANY WAY INTERESTED IN IT**
Having them kill simon was a little wierd, I know simon was supposed to be shown as a sort of Jesus so to speak. He told both Ralph and Jack that there was no beastie on the mountain, to which Jack started to throw tantrums. Then, they just killed him. Ralph joined in.....
I felt it was totally cliche the way Ralph lost entire responsibilty upon the group. Though he was repentant towards his demonic actions, I feel that Golding could have devised a better way to hold the event of Simon's death.
I felt the death of Piggy could have been a little slower, dont get me wrong Im not an evil Kunevil, but I felt that he died so quick, the reader never really got to sympathise for him, and when Ralph was on the run from Jack and his henchmen, the ship came with the Sailor.
I feel this was all too fast.
